CODE OF CONDUCT & winter safety

BATAWA SKI HILL CODE OF CONDUCT

At Batawa Ski Hill, we are proud to be a not-for-profit, family-oriented community space where everyone can enjoy the outdoors in a safe, respectful, and welcoming environment. To keep our slopes and lodge enjoyable for all, we ask that guests and staff follow these simple guidelines:

Respect for Others

  • Treat fellow guests, staff, and volunteers with kindness and courtesy.

  • Use respectful language—offensive, discriminatory, or aggressive behavior will not be tolerated.

  • Be mindful of children, beginners, and those learning; patience creates a positive experience for everyone.

Safety on the Slopes

  • All guests must read, understand, and follow the Alpine Responsibility Code. It is the foundation of safe skiing and riding.

  • Pay attention to all on-hill signage — it’s there for your safety and for the safety of others.

  • Remember the three keys to a safe day on the slopes: be self-aware and honest about your ability, control your speed, and keep a safe distance from others to help prevent accidents.

  • Our Ski Patrol team is here to help keep everyone safe — not only by responding to incidents, but also by preventing them. Please listen to and respect their instructions at all times.

  • Helmets are strongly recommended for all guests and are required for children in lessons and programs.

  • You can find more safety resources, including the Alpine Responsibility Code, further down this page.

Lodge & Facilities Etiquette

  • Keep belongings tidy in designated areas, not ON tables; do not block walkways, seating, or exits.

  • Place skis and snowboards in the designated racks outside — not on the ground, tables, or against windows.

  • We highly recommend locking your equipment when it’s on the racks to prevent theft or accidental mix-ups

  • Plugging in Slow cookers/crock pots or any other cooking devices is not permitted.

  • Alcohol may only be consumed in licensed areas.

  • Help us keep the hill clean by using recycling and garbage bins.

Zero Tolerance for Harassment or Abuse

  • Harassment, bullying, or any form of discrimination (including against staff, volunteers, or other guests) will not be tolerated.

  • Abusive behavior may result in removal of lift privileges, ejection from the property, or further action if necessary.

Environmental Responsibility

  • The natural environment is the foundation of our operations. We expect all guests to behave respectfully by staying on designated trails, not littering, and avoiding damage to trees or other vegetation.

  • Follow staff direction during weather-related closures or emergencies.

Family-Friendly Focus

  • Our ski hill is a place for families and community members of all ages. Please conduct yourself in a way that reflects a welcoming and supportive environment.

  • Loud, disruptive, or inappropriate behavior is not acceptable.

Enforcement

  • Failure to follow the Code of Conduct may result in:

A verbal reminder or warning

Suspension or revocation of lift ticket/season pass

Removal from the premises without refund

By skiing or snowboarding at Batawa Ski Hill, you agree to follow this Code of Conduct and help us keep the hill safe, fun, and welcoming for everyone.

Tips for Avoiding Collisions #RideAnotherDay

Complementing the Responsibility Code and it's 10 tenets, #RideAnotherDay promotes 3 actions every skier and rider can take to help keep themselves and those around safer on the slopes.

1. Be Ready

Be ready to slow down or avoid objects or other people at any time. Ski and ride in such a way that you are always able to control yourself regardless of conditions and avoid others and objects you may encounter on the run, groomed or otherwise.

2. Stay Alert

Stay alert to what’s going on around you, especially other skiers and riders. Being aware of those around and changing conditions will help you have a fun and safe day on the hill.

3. Plan Ahead

Ease up at blind spots, check uphill when merging onto trails, and give other skiers plenty of room when passing. Look out for spots on the run where traffic merges or you can't see what's coming next. If you are unfamiliar with a run, take it easy the first time down it and make note of places where you'll want to slow down, such as cat tracks and rollers. Also, give other skiers and riders lots or room, especially if you are passing them. There's plenty of space out there, so there's no need to crowd each other.
