I Will Survive Activity #1

Tin Can Lanterns

Going camping and don't have any flashlights that work or are you out of batteries? Try this one out!

  1. Collect tin cans from your recycling. Remove labels and give them a cleaning. Be careful of any sharp pieces around the lid.

  2. Find a pattern you would like to use. You could do a smiley face, heart, star, or whatever you can think of!

  3. With adult supervision only use a metal punch or drill and make holes in the can on the outline of the pattern you picked.

  4. Use a piece of wire or twine to tie attach to both sides in order to be able to hang your lantern up.

  5. Place a flameless tea light candle or string lights in your can and let it illuminate your camping ground for the night.

Optional: Using acrylic paint, apply a thick layer to the can to make your lantern super colourful. Shine bright!
